RESEARCH EXPERIENCE

Years of Experience & Academic Excellence

I am an Indigenous scholar and community-based researcher specializing in oral history, decolonizing education, and Kanien’kehá:ka knowledge and culture revitalization. My graduate research centered on community stories and experiences at Indian Day Schools in Kahnawà:ke. I began my academic journey in 2013 as a mother of three —what an adventure it’s been for our family of five!

Through research, advocacy, and leadership, my goal is to exemplify a powerful model of Indigenous scholarship—one that is relational, community-driven, and rooted in the transformative potential of story and education. I hope that my work will influence how Indigenous research is conducted and valued within academic and community settings alike.

Language Reclamation

Reclaiming Onkwehonwehnéha is integral to the restoration of our communities and Nations. My husband and I enrolled our children in immersion schools and I attended Ratiwennahnì:rats adult language immersion program from 2010 to 2012.

From 2019 to 2021 I worked at the Kahnawà:ke Education Center as the Coordinator for a research project under NEȾOLṈEW̱. Our project sought to create supports for in-service immersion teachers as second language learners, and pilot an Onkwehonwehnéha teacher-coach mentorship role at our immersion school.

From 2017 to 2018 I worked at the Kahnawà:ke Education Center on Skátne Eniokwaio’ten, an initiative to create the first 5-year strategic plan for language revitalization in Kahnawà:ke. I remain connected to that initiative over the years.

Community Engagement

I spent many years as an advocate, activist, and community volunteer.

From 2021 to 2024, I was employed at the Kahnawà:ke Education Center as the Education Research Consultant and Chair of the Education Research Committee. I was also co-author of the first research policy and code of ethics for the Kahnawà:ke education system.

In 2022, I joined the Community Advisory Board and Research Team for KSDPP, a community-based research and training organization in Kahnawà:ke.
